Hypermobility and Persistent Pain

Hypermobility and Persistent Pain Movement Course

A safe, supportive and confidence-building way to move more and feel stronger. People with hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD), hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) and long-term pain often feel left out of mainstream fitness. Workouts feel too
intense, recovery is unpredictable and it can be hard to know what is genuinely safe.

That is why Visosport and Southampton Physio have created a 12-week movement course designed specifically for this community. You’ll enjoy playful, games-based sessions led by Visosport facilitators, underpinned by clinical guidance that ensures the right starting point for your body.

Course Details
Start date: Thursday 6 February
Time: 6.30pm – 7.30pm (running weekly)
Duration: 12 weeks
Location: The Pavilion On The Park, Kingfisher Road, Eastleigh, UK
Course fee: £120 for the full 12-week programme
Initial consultation: £75 for a 45-minute clinical assessment with Southampton Physio (required before joining)

How the Programme Works
1. One-Off Clinical Assessment (Required Before Starting)
Before joining, every participant completes a 45-minute assessment with a Southampton Physio clinician.
This helps us understand:
• Your hypermobility profile and areas of instability
• Fatigue patterns and symptom triggers
• Any co-conditions (e.g. PoTS or chronic pain)
• What movements feel safe and what needs adapting
Your clinician then creates a personalised coach handover, giving
the Visosport team clear guidance on:
       • Movements to emphasise or adapt
       • Safe ranges of motion
       • Pacing recommendations
• How to support you if symptoms change
This ensures you enter the first session with a plan that suits your body and your goals.

2. Weekly One-Hour Classes Focused on Safety, Choice and Play
Each one-hour session includes:
• A gentle warm-up
• Games-based movement adapted for hypermobility
• Low-impact strength and balance tasks
• Plenty of pacing choices and opt-in options
• A relaxed cool-down and check-in

We prioritise:
• Variety over intensity
• Controlled movement over perfect technique
• Confidence and enjoyment over performance
• Options you can choose from, not pressure to keep up
Movements are always adjustable and you will not be asked to
push into end range or work through pain.

Integrated Support Throughout
Your Visosport facilitator receives ongoing guidance from Southampton Physio as needed. If symptoms flare or your goals shift, you can self-refer back to physiotherapy at any time
for additional support.

Who This Course Is For
This course is ideal for adults who:
• Have hypermobility, hEDS or persistent pain
• Feel unsafe or overwhelmed in traditional fitness settings
• Want a gentle, playful and supportive way to get active
• Need clarity on how to move confidently without aggravating
   symptoms

No fitness level is required. No pressure to perform. Just a safe, structured way to return to movement.

What You Can Expect Over 12 Weeks
Many participants notice:
• More confidence in daily movement
• Improved joint control and awareness
• Reduced fear of flare-ups
• Better stamina and pacing
• Renewed enjoyment in being active

The aim is steady, sustainable progress, with support available whenever you need it.

Boundaries and guidelines are adjusted to help empower participants to exercise within their limits to reduce the risk of injury without losing any of the fun and excitement of Visosport.

Also, by exercising with participants from the same community, there is less pressure to perform or compete as everyone comes from a similar background so can understand and be aware of each other's needs and limitations.

The main focus of the sessions, though, is to exercise in an appropriate, fun and friendly environment through play and interaction where participants gently improve their fitness and wellbeing.
